Based on the factorization method, the authors analyse the time harmonic inverse scattering problem from inhomogeneous infinite periodic layers, which contain a local perturbation, in order to reconstruct the support of the perturbation from measurements of scattered waves at a fixed frequency. It is assumed that the index of refraction of the background has at least a positive imaginary part on a non-empty open set. Several numerical examples are included to validate the theoretical results.
