It is well known that for a given compact Riemannian manifold \((M, g)\) its Laplace-Beltrami spectrum does not determine the isometry class of \(g\). However, despite this fact, it is to be expected that Riemannian metrics with remarkable properties are spectrally distinguished from other Riemannian metrics. The main result of the paper under review is Theorem 2: If a left-invariant metric on \(\mathrm{Sp}(n)\) is isospectral to a bi-invariant metric then they are isometric. The proof is addressed to \(n\geq 2\) since the case \(n=1\) is already known from \(\mathrm{Sp}(1)\simeq \mathrm{SU}(2)\simeq \mathrm{S}^3\).
