Compact subgroups in the group of rational points of smooth affine algebraic group scheme over a non-Archimedean local field are investigated. The main result is the follows. Let \(k\) be a non-Archimedean local field with residue characteristic \(p\) and \(G\) be a smooth affine algebraic \(k\)-group. The following statements are equivalent: \begin{itemize} \item[(i)] The identity component \(G_0\) of \(G\) is a quasi-reductive \(k\)-group, \item[(ii)] \(G(k)\) is Noetherian, \item[(iii)] \(G(k)\) admits a maximal compact subgroup, \item[(iv)] \(G(k)\) admits a maximal pro-\(p\) subgroup. \end{itemize} Moreover, under the above equivalent conditions: \begin{itemize} \item[(1)] Every pro-\(p\) (resp. compact) subgroup of \(G(k)\) is contained in a maximal pro-p (resp. compact) subgroup of \(G(k)\). \item[(2)] Every maximal pro-\(p\) (resp. compact) subgroup of \(G(k)\) is open. \end{itemize} Also maximal pro-\(p\) subgroups in the case of semisimple (in particular -- quasi-split) groups are investigated.
