The authors study the weak, strong and sufficient localization properties for Toeplitz operators. A~linear operator \(T\) defined on the Bergman space \(L^2_a(\mathbb D)\) is said to be weakly localized (see [\textit{J. Isralowitz} et al., Indiana Univ. Math. J. 64, No. 5, 1553--1573 (2015; Zbl 1337.32014)]) if there exists \(0<a<1\) such that \[\sup_{z\in \mathbb D} \int_\mathbb D |\langle S(k_z),k_w\rangle |\frac{\|K_z\|^a}{\|K_w\|^a} \,d\lambda(w)<\infty\] and \[\lim_{r\to \infty}\sup_{z\in \mathbb D} \int_{D(z,r)^c} |\langle S(k_z),k_w\rangle |\frac{\|K_z\|^a}{\|K_w\|^a} \,d\lambda(w)=0\] for \(S=T\) and \(S=T^*\), where as usual \(K_z\) and \(k_z\) stand for the reproducing and normalized reproducing kernel of \(L^2_a(\mathbb D)\), \(d\lambda(z)=dA(z)/ (1-|z|^2)^2\) is the invariant measure on the unit disc and \(D(z,r)\) is the hyperbolic disc. A~linear operator \(T\) defined on the Bergman space \(L^2_a(\mathbb D)\) is said to be strongly localized (respectively, sufficiently localized) if for all \(1\le p<\infty\) (respectively, there exists \(3<p<\infty\)) such that \(\sup_{z\in \mathbb D} \|U_z^*TU_z\|_p<\infty\) and \(\sup_{z\in \mathbb D} \|U_z^*T^*U_z\|_p<\infty\) where \(U_zf= (f\circ \phi_z) k_z\) and \(\phi_z\) are the Möbius transformations on the unit disc. It is shown that sufficiently localized implies weakly localized. The authors show that Toeplitz operators defined by complex measures \(T_\nu f(z)=\int_\mathbb D\frac{f(w)}{(1-z\bar w)^2} d\nu(w)\) are weakly localized on the Bergman space \(L^2_a(\mathbb D)\) whenever \(|\nu|\) is a Carleson measure and also that \(T_\nu\) is strongly localized on \(L^2_a(\mathbb D)\) in the case \(d\nu(z)=f(z) dA(z)\) with \(f\in \mathrm{BMO}^1\), meaning that \(\sup_{z\in \mathbb D} \{\widetilde {|f|}(z)- |\widetilde f(z)|\}<\infty\) where \(\tilde f\) denotes the Berezin transform of the function \(f\). Applications to the Toeplitz algebra are also provided.
