For a nonempty subset \(M\) of a normed space \( X\) and \(x\in X\) let \(\rho(x,M)=\inf\|x-y\| : y\in M\}\) be the distance from \(x\) to \(M\). An additive (multiplicative) \(\varepsilon\)-selection is a mapping \(\varphi: X\to M\) such that \(\|\varphi(x)-x\|\le \rho(x,M)+\varepsilon\) (resp. \(\|\varphi(x)-x\|\le (1+\varepsilon)\rho(x,M)\)) for all \(x\in X\), where \(\varepsilon>0\). Actually, an additive \(\varepsilon\)-selection is a selection of the near- approximation operator \(P_M^\varepsilon(x)=\{y\in M:\|x-y\|\le\rho(x,M)+\varepsilon\}\). The author proves various existence results for continuous \(\varepsilon\)-selections, as, for instance, global continuous selections obtained from local selections of near-approximation operator. As he writes in Introduction: ``In essence, this is a continuation of the author's paper, [Izv. Math. 80, No. 2, 442--461 (2016; Zbl 1356.46013); translation from Izv. Ross. Akad. Nauk, Ser. Mat. 80, No. 2, 165--184 (2016)], on the relationship between a local and a global selection but under a weakened localization condition expressed in terms of the approximative continuity condition. In addition, we shall consider the new approximation notion of radial \(\delta\)-solarity, which is stronger than the notion of classical \(\delta\)-solarity.'' The uniqueness of best approximation in a strictly convex normed space \(X\) holds at every point of approximative compactness (Theorem 2). Also, if \(\dim(X)<\infty\) and \(M\) is closed, then there exists a global \(\varepsilon\)-selection, provided every point in \(X\) is a point of approximate continuity (Theorem 3).
