Different types of curves (directional curves, local quasi-geodesic, quasi-geodesic, and geodesic rays) are studied which are related to the (approximate) fixed point property for nonexpansive mappings and to the lion-man game. In the main result of the paper it is shown that in the setting of complete CAT(0) spaces that are additionally Gromov hyperbolic, for a closed convex domain \(A\), the following are equivalent: (1) \(A\) does not contain geodesic rays, (2) \(A\) has the fixed point property for nonexpansive mappings, and (3) the lion always wins the lion-man game played in \(A\).
