This paper considers the dynamics of the immune response to viral infections through stochastic delay differential equations. A specific example consists of seven species. The approach is to derive such a model through the delay chemical master equation describing the probability density function of the interacting species using system size expansions. Individual simulations for some rate constants in the chemical reacting model can show sustained stochastic oscillations whose variance increases the closer to deterministic stability boundaries, as well as stochastic switching.
