Nakayama algebras are combinatorially defined algebras, finite dimensional over a field. They occur as two types: cyclic ones, and linear ones, according to their Gabriel quiver. \textit{K. Igusa} and \textit{D. Zacharia} [J. Algebra 151, No. 2, 502--521 (1992; Zbl 0765.16003)] proved that a cyclic Nakayama algebra $A$ has finite global dimension if and only if a certain simplicial complex $L(A)$ has Euler characteristic one. Later Ringel associated a resolution quiver $R(A)$ to any Nakayama algebra $A$, and \textit{D. Shen} [Arch. Math. 108, No. 3, 251--261 (2017; Zbl 1366.16011)] proved that $A$ has finite global dimension if and only if $R(A)$ has a single component with weight one. The authors provide a refinement of these results by showing that $\chi(L(A))$ is equal to the number of weight 1 components of the resolution quiver $R(A)$. As a consequence, they prove that an arbitrary Nakayama algebra $A$ has finite global dimension if and only if $L(A)$ is contractible.
