One of the most fruitful approaches to the Stieltjes moment problem (that is the power moment problem on the semi-axis) is to work with the Cauchy transforms of the unkown measure(s) and treat the inverse problem as a tangential interpolation question for this class of functions. The classical works of Navanlinna and Schur clarified in this way the earlier continued fractions computations and offered a higher understanding of the moment problem. In the background are of course also resolvents of semi-bounded symmetric operators, hence Hilbert space methods. In a series of groundbreaking works, Heinz Langer and Mark Krein have generalized the setting of such inverse problems to indefinite inner product spaces, allowing in particular the solutions to the moment problems to possess finitely many negative point-masses. These works are still of high interest today: [\textit{M. G. Krein} and \textit{H. Langer}, Math. Nachr. 77, 187--236 (1977; Zbl 0412.30020); J. Funct. Anal. 30, 390--447 (1978; Zbl 0423.47008); Beitr. Anal. 14, 25--40 (1979; Zbl 0507.47021); ibid. 15, 27--45 (1981; Zbl 0507.47022)]. The article under review is considering the truncated Stieltjes' moment problem with finitely many negative point masses. The author masterly combines continued fraction expansions, inteprolation in Navanlinna-type classes of functions and spectral theory in indefinite inner product spaces in an attempt to solve the so-called irregular moment problems.
