In this work, \(G\) will denote a not necessarily compact Lie group. As usual, a space \(X\) is called a \(G\)-space if there is a fixed continuous action \((g,x)\mapsto gx\) of \(G\) on \(X\). The action is called free if for all \(x\in X\) and \(g\in G\), \(gx=x\) implies \(g=e\), the unity of \(G\). It is called proper if \(X\) has an open cover consisting of ``small'' sets \(V\), i.e., each point of \(X\) has a neighborhood \(U\) such that the closure in \(G\) of \(\{g\in G\,|\,gU\cap V\neq\emptyset\}\) is compact. If \(G\)-\(\mathcal{T}\) denotes a class of \(G\)-spaces, then an element \(U\) of \(G\)-\(\mathcal{T}\) is called universal for \(G\)-\(\mathcal{T}\) if for all \(X\) in \(G\)-\(\mathcal{T}\), \(U\) contains as a \(G\)-subspace a \(G\)-homeomorphic copy of \(X\). The paper centers on giving an affirmative answer to the following (as well as some related questions): Question 1.1. Does there exist a universal \(G\)-space in the class of paracompact (respectively, metrizable) free proper \(G\)-spaces of a given infinite weight \(\tau\)?
