In the article under review, the authors prove the equidistribution of signs for certain subfamilies of Fourier coefficients of half-integral weight Hilbert modular cusp forms defined over totally real fields, that are accessible via the Shimura correspondence. This is a generalization of the result of the reviewer and \textit{G. Wiese} [Arch. Math. 101, No. 4, 331--339 (2013; Zbl 1333.11042)] to the setting of totally real number fields. The proof is based on the celebrated Sato-Tate theorem on integral weight Hilbert modular forms and carrying this nice result to the half-integral weight Hilbert modular forms via the Shimura correspondence. This article has the most general result on the equidistribution of signs problem which is accessible with the idea in the reviewer and Wiese's paper [loc. cit.].
