This paper concerns the study of ideals associated to suitable projections of Veronese 3-folds. A Veronese 3-fold \(V\) is a projective variety given parametrically by the set \(M_{3,d}\) of all monomials of degree \(d\) in \(K[x_{0},x_{1},x_{2},x_{3}]\) and by a projection of \(V\) it is meant a projective 3-fold given parametrically by a subset of \(M_{3,d}\). The authors consider as a subset of \(M_{3,d}\) the set \(T_{d}\) of all monomials of degree \(d\) invariant under the action of the diagonal matrix \(M(1,e,e^{2},e^{3})\), where \(e\) is a primitive root of 1 of order \(d\). For any integer \(d \geq 4\) they denote by \(X_{d}\) the toric variety defined as the image of the morphism \(\phi_{T_{d}}: \mathbb{P}^{3} \longrightarrow \mathbb{P}^{\mu(T_{d})-1}\). They prove that the homogeneous ideal \(I(X_{d})\) associated to \(X_{d}\) is the homogeneous prime binomial ideal associated to a saturated partial character \(\eta\) of \(\mathbb{Z}^{\mu(T_{d})}\) with associated lattice \(L_{\eta}\). They also explicitly compute a minimal binomial set of generators of \(I(X_{d})\). The lattice points associated to these set of generators form a Markov basis of \(L_{\eta}\). Their main result states that \(I(X_{d})\) is generated by quadrics if \(d\) is even and by quadrics and cubics if \(d\) is odd.
