This paper is concerned with the qualitative analysis of solutions for a nonlinear problem driven by a non-homogeneous differential operator and with Robin boundary condition. A feature of this paper is that the reaction is defined only near the origin. The authors are interested in the combined effects of an indefinite potential and the nonlinear term. The main results of this paper establish sufficient conditions for the existence and the multiplicity of solutions. The proofs combine variational, topological and analytic methods. There are also used truncation arguments, Morse theory methods, as well as truncation and perturbation techniques and related comparison principles.
