The paper delivers what it promises: an investigation of properties related to Baire category in function spaces with the Fell hypograph topology. The Fell topology is the topology on the family of closed subsets of a space \(X\) by the subbase consisting of the sets \(\{F:F\cap U\neq\emptyset\}\) and \(\{F:F\cap K=\emptyset\}\), where \(U\) and \(K\) run through the families of open and compact sets respectively. One uses the Fell topology to topologise function spaces: if \(C(X,Y)\) is the family of continuous functions from the space \(X\) to the Hausdorff space \(Y\) then \(C(X,Y)\) consists of closed subsets of \(X\times Y\) and hence inherits the Fell topology of its hyperspace. In the present paper \(Y\) is generally a subspace of \(\mathbb{R}\) and the authors identify a function \(f\) with its hypograph \(\{(x,y):y\le f(x)\}\) rather than its graph. The resulting space is denoted \(C_{\downarrow F}(X,Y)\). The paper contains a slew of results characterising when this space is Baire, Choquet, strong Choquet, (almost) completely metrizable and (almost) Polish. These are too numerous to summarize compactly, so let it suffice to give the flavour by citing an answer to a question from [\textit{R. A. McCoy} and \textit{I. Ntantu}, Boll. Unione Mat. Ital., VII. Ser., B 6, No. 3, 507--532 (1992; Zbl 0793.54012)]: if \(X\) is Tychonoff then \(C_{\downarrow F}(X,\mathbb{R})\) is a Baire space iff it is Choquet iff it is strong Choquet iff \(X\) is discrete.
