The main aim of the paper under review is to use the factorization of differential operators (see e.g. [\textit{F. Gesztesy} and \textit{L. Littlejohn}, in: Non-linear partial differential equations, mathematical physics, and stochastic analysis. The Helge Holden anniversary volume on the occasion of his 60th birthday. Based on the presentations at the conference `Non-linear PDEs, mathematical physics and stochastic analysis', NTNU, Trondheim, Norway, July 4--7, 2016. Zürich: European Mathematical Society (EMS). 207--226 (2018; Zbl 1402.35014)]) to study the Hardy type inequalities on half spaces. Motivated by works by \textit{H. Brézis} and \textit{J. L. Vázquez} [Rev. Mat. Univ. Complutense Madr. 10, No. 2, 443--469 (1997; Zbl 0894.35038)] and \textit{H. Brezis} and \textit{M. Marcus} [Ann. Sc. Norm. Super. Pisa, Cl. Sci., IV. Ser. 25, No. 1--2, 217--237 (1997; Zbl 1011.46027)], the authors establish several identities that imply sharpened forms Hardy type inequalities on upper half spaces. They set up these results for the distance to the origin, the distance to the boundary of a strip, and the distance to a hyperplane, using both the usual full gradient and radial derivative or only the partial derivative. The identities and inequalities by the authors offer sharpened and more precise estimates for the existing Hardy type inequalities on upper half spaces, including e.g. the Hardy-Sobolev-Maz'ya type inequalities.
