Let the symbols $\dot K^{\alpha(\cdot),q(\cdot)}_{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb R^n)$ and $H\dot K^{\alpha(\cdot),q(\cdot)}_{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb R^n)$ denote the homogeneous Herz space and the homogeneous Herz-type Hardy space, respectively, with variable smoothness and integrability. First the authors prove the atomic decomposition of variable Herz spaces (cf. Theorem 3.8) and then they use it to establish conditions which guarantee that some bilinear operator $B(f,g)$ is bounded from $H\dot K^{\alpha_1(\cdot),q_1(\cdot)}_{p_1(\cdot)}(\mathbb R^n)\times \dot K^{\alpha_2(\cdot),q_2(\cdot)}_{p_2(\cdot)}(\mathbb R^n)$ or from $H\dot K^{\alpha_1(\cdot),q_1(\cdot)}_{p_1(\cdot)}(\mathbb R^n)\times H \dot K^{\alpha_2(\cdot),q_2(\cdot)}_{p_2(\cdot)}(\mathbb R^n)$ into another variable Herz-type Hardy space $H\dot K^{\alpha(\cdot),q(\cdot)}_{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb R^n)$ (cf. Theorem 4.3 or Theorem 4.5). Results of this paper generalize some results of \textit{L. Grafakos} et al. [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 350, No. 3, 1249--1275 (1998; Zbl 0893.47044)], where the smoothness and integrability are constant functions.
