The authors characterize the semigroups of composition operators \(C_{\phi_t}\) that are strongly continuous on the mixed norm spaces \(H(p,q,\alpha)\) where \(\{\phi_t\}_{t\ge 0}\) is a semigroup of analytic functions in the disc, meaning that \(\phi_t:\mathbb D\to \mathbb D\) analytic, \(\phi_0(z)=z\), \(\phi_{t+s}=\phi_t\circ \phi_s\) and \(\phi_t\to \phi_0\) uniformly on compact sets, and where \(H(p,q,\alpha)\) stands for the space of analytic functions in the disc such that \(\int_0^1 (1-r)^{\alpha q-1} M_p^q(r,f) dr<\infty\) with \(M_p(r,f)= \int_0^{2\pi} |f(re^{it})|^p \frac{dt}{2\pi}\). The paper deals with the description of the maximal closed linear subspace of \(H(p,q,\alpha)\) such that the semigroup generates a semigroups of operators on it, namely \([\phi_t, H(p,q,\alpha)]=\{f\in H(p,q,\alpha): \|f\circ\phi_t - f\|\to 0, t\to 0\}\). Their results extend those proved by the reviewer et al. [Ann. Acad. Sci. Fenn., Math. 38, No. 1, 67--89 (2013; Zbl 1273.30046)]. The situation, as expected, is different for \(q<\infty\), where polynomials are dense, and for \(q=\infty\). In the first case, for Hardy or Bergman spaces, every semigroup of analytic functions generates a stronly continuous semigroup of composition operators but no non-trivial semigroup generates a uniformly continuous semigroup. The case \(q=\infty\) is more delicate. Denoting by \(H(p,0,\alpha)\) the subspace of \(H(p,\infty,\alpha)\) where \(\lim_{r\to 1}(1-r)^\alpha M_p(r,f)=0\), it is shown that \(H(p,0,\alpha)\subseteq [\phi_t, H(p,\infty,\alpha)]\subseteq [\phi_t, H(p,\infty,\alpha)] \). When the Denjoy-Wolff point \(b\) of the semigroup belongs to the discs they show that \(H(p,0,\alpha)= [\phi_t, H(p,\infty,\alpha)]\) if and only if the associated \(g\)-symbol of the semigroup \(\gamma\) belongs to little Bloch, with \(\gamma(z)=\int_b^z \frac{\xi-b}{G(\xi)}d\xi\) where \(G\) is the generator of the semigroup. In the case that the Denjoy-Wolff point is at the boundary, \([\phi_t, H(p,\infty,\alpha)]\) is always non-separable. Also the authors analyze the boundedness and compactness of the integral operators \(T_g\) defined by \(T_g(f)(z)=\int_0^z f(\xi)g'(\xi)d\xi\) acting on \(H(p,q,\alpha)\) spaces, which was previously known in many cases [\textit{A. Aleman} and \textit{A. G. Siskakis}, Indiana Univ. Math. J. 46, No. 2, 337--356 (1997; Zbl 0951.47039)]. They cover in the paper the case \(H(p,\infty,\alpha)\) showing the equivalence between the following conditions: boundedness, weak-compactness, compactness and not fixing a copy of \(\ell_\infty\) for the operator \(T_g\) acting on \(H(p,\infty,\alpha)\) and the fact that \(g\) belongs to the little Bloch space. In particular if \(g\) belongs to the Bloch space but not to the little Bloch space then the operator \(T_g\) fixes a copy of \(\ell_\infty\) which in particular implies that it has non-separable image.
