Finiteness properties of totally disconnected locally compact groups (Q2333362)

Let \(G\) be a totally disconnected locally compact group and \(R\) a commutative ring. The author defines several finiteness properties for totally disconnected locally compact groups in terms of the categories \({}_{R[G]}\mathbf{top}\) and \({}_{R[G]}\mathbf{dis}\) of topological \(R[G]\)-modules and discrete \(R[G]\)-modules respectively. He also shows that many well-known properties that hold for abstract groups satisfying some finiteness properties can be transferred to the context of totally disconnected locally compact groups as well as several important criteria for finiteness properties, such as Bieri's criterion and Brown's criteria. Applications of these criteria are also presented. Finally, the author introduces graph-wreath products in the category of totally disconnected locally compact groups and discuss their finiteness properties, as well as homological and cohomological dimension for totally disconnected locally compact groups.
