The authors deal with a generalization of the \(L^p\) Minkowski problem, which arises in the Orlicz-Brunn-Minkowski theory. Given a function \(f\) on the unit sphere \(S^{n-1}\), the \(L^p\) Minkowski problem asks for a convex body whose \(L^p\) surface area measure has density \(f\) with respect to the standard \((n-1)\)-Hausdorff measure on \(S^{n-1}\). In the extension treated here, an Orlicz function substitutes the \(L^p\) norm and \(p \in (-n, 0)\). This latter problem is equivalent to solve a Monge-Ampere equation on \(S^{n-1}\) involving the support function of the convex body in question.
