Let us consider the differential inequality \(\Delta u + \Phi (x) u^\sigma \le 0\) on a Riemannian manifold \((M,g)\), where \(\Phi\) is a positive function on \(M\), \(\sigma > 1\) is a given exponent and \(u\) an unknown \(C^2\)-function. In the present paper the authors investigate the existence of non-trivial positive solutions of the inequality above in a connected exterior domain \(M \setminus K\), where \(K\) is a compact subset of \(M.\) They show that the existence or non-existence of a positive solution depends on the value of \(\sigma\) as well as on the geometric properties of \(M\) and they determine the critical exponent assuming the volume regularity and Green function estimates.
