    Functions \(f \in L^p (-1,1)\), \(1<p<\infty\), can be expanded by the orthonormal \(L^2\)-basis of Jacobi functions if, and only if, \(4/3 <p<4\). It is the main aim of the paper to show that a corresponding expansion holds in the Morrey space \(L^{p, \lambda} (-1,1)\), \(0 \leq \lambda <3/4\), \(1<p<\infty\), if, and only if, \((1-\lambda)4/3 <p< 4(1-\lambda)\). Here, \(L^{p,0} (-1,1) = L^p (-1,1)\).
