In this paper, the authors develop a theory of covering dimension for finite lattices, in the spirit of classical dimension theory for topological spaces. They start by defining the order of a subset \(S\) of a lattice \(L\) and, based on this, they introduce the definition of the covering dimension, \(\dim(L)\), of \(L\), as an adaptation of the usual topological definition of covering dimension. Then, they show that, for any integer \(k\geq 0\), there is a finite lattice \(L(k)\) such that \(\dim(L(k))=k\), and that \(\dim(L)\leq k\) precisely when every minimal cover of \(L\) has order at most \(k\). Finally, they investigate the behavior of the covering dimension with respect to sum, product and sublattice theorems, and pose some questions. They show, among other results, that the sum theorem for dim is not true for the covering dimension in the class of all finite lattices.
