A stage-structured population model (a delay differential system) is considered. Taking the time delay \(\tau\) as a parameter, Hopf bifurcation occurs at the positive equilibrium under some conditions and research results can be found from literature for \(\beta >0\). The main focus of this paper is to investigate bifurcations in the critical case \(\beta = 0\). The direction and stability of Hopf bifurcation are analysed and global continuation of periodic solutions bifurcating from the equilibrium is investigated.
