Two-dimensional triangulations and splines defined upon them demand in particular splines (i.e., piecewise polynomials) as most useful approximations schemes. The Powell-Sabin split method is one of the most celebrated form of splitting the triangulations into smaller pieces so as to be able to define smooth splines using them as their pieces. In this work smoothness of order \(r\) greater than zero is achieved with piecewise polynomials of degree \(3r-1\).
