Given complex Banach spaces \(E\) and \(F\), a function \(P: E\to F\) is said to be an \(n\)-homogeneous polynomial if there is a (continuous) \(n\)-linear mapping \(A: \underbrace{E\times\cdots\times E}_{\text{n-times}}\to F\) such that \(P(x)=A(x,\dots,x)\) for all \(x\) in \(E\). The space of all \(n\)-homogeneous polynomials from \(E\) into \({\mathbb C}\) is denoted by \({\mathcal P}(^nE)\), while the space of those polynomials which are weakly continuous on bounded subsets of \(E\) is denoted by \({\mathcal P}_w(^nE)\). In this paper, the authors show that, if \(E\) is a Banach space so that \(E'\), the dual of \(E\), is weakly sequentially complete and \({\mathcal P} (^nE)={\mathcal P}_w(^nE)\), then \({\mathcal P}_w(^nE)\) is weakly sequentially complete. Moreover, the converse is shown to be true if \(E'\) has the bounded compact approximation property (BCAP). Vector-valued versions of these results are also established. For reflexive Banach spaces with the compact approximation property (CAP), weak sequential completeness and reflexivity of \({\mathcal P}_w(^nE)\) are shown to be equivalent. In the final section, the approximation properties (BCAP and CAP) for spaces of projective tensor products and polynomials are discussed.
