If \(R\) is a ring, a finitely generated left \(R\)-module \(M\) is said to be holonomic if \[ \mathrm{GK}\dim(M)=\tfrac{1}{2} \mathrm{GK}\dim(R/\mathrm{Ann}_R(M)), \] where GK\(\dim\) denotes the Gelfand-Kirillow dimension. The main result of the paper is the proof that the enveloping algebras of all semisimple complex Lie algebras, not of type \(A_1\), admit nonholonomic simple modules (Theorem 1.1). This is done by combining methods previously introduced by the author with results of [\textit{J.V. Pereira}, J. Eur. Math. Soc. (JEMS) 14, No. 1, 307--319 (2012; Zbl 1296.37040)] and [\textit{W. Borho} et al., Invent. Math. 69, No. 3, 437--476 (1982; Zbl 0504.22015)].
