Let \(T\) be a torus over an algebraically closed field with trivial valuation, and let \(Z \subseteq T\) be a closed subvariety defined by linear equations. The variety \(Z\) can be compactified by taking the closure \(\overline{Z}\) in a smooth toric variety of \(T\) whose fan \(\Sigma\) has the support equal to the tropicalization of \(Z\). The author proves that there is a graded ring isomorphism from the operational Chow cohomology ring \[ A^*(\overline{Z}) \to M^*(\Sigma), \] where \(M^*(\Sigma)\) is the group of Minkowski weights on \(\Sigma\) equipped with the intersection product described by \textit{G. François} and \textit{J. Rau} [Collect. Math. 64, No. 2, 185--210 (2013; Zbl 1312.14144)] and \textit{K. M. Shaw} [SIAM J. Discrete Math. 27, No. 1, 459--491 (2013; Zbl 1314.14113). This work can be viewed as a tropical generalization of the theorem of \textit{E. M. Feichtner} and \textit{S. Yuzvinsky} [Invent. Math. 155, No. 3, 515--536 (2004; Zbl 1083.14059)] which identifies the cohomology ring of a wonderful compactification of a hyperplane arrangement complement with the Chow ring of the smooth toric variety associated to a building set.
