The classical variational principle for the entropy establishes that if \(T:X\rightarrow X\) is a continuous map of a compact metric space \(X\) on itself, then the topological entropy of \(T\) is equal to the supremum of the metric entropy over all \(T\)-invariant Borel probability measures. In a previous paper [the author and \textit{C. Wolf}, Isr. J. Math. 199, Part B, 791--829 (2014; Zbl 1358.37022)], a particular version of the variational principle was established in terms of ``localized entropy'' for compact metric spaces with the Besicovitch covering property. In this paper, the author proves that the last assumption about the compact metric space (the Besicovitch Covering Property) is not necessary and that the same result holds for general compact metric spaces.
