The author is mainly concerned with the study of the ground state energy associated to the two-dimensional Ginzburg-Landau system with applied magnetic field. He describes the asymptotic behaviour of the minimizing energy when both the magnetic field and the Ginzburg-Landau parameter are large and of the same order. The proofs combine elliptic estimates, variational arguments and techniques from asymptotic analysis.
