The authors investigate the class of Rauzy fractals \(\mathcal{R}_a\) defined via the cubic polynomial \(x^3 - a x^2 +x -1\) with \(2\leq a\in \mathbb{Z}\). A set similar to \(\mathcal{R}_a\), called a \(G\)-Rauzy fractal, denoted by \(\mathcal{G}_a\), is defined and properties of its boundary are studied. An explicit finite state automaton that recognizes the boundaries of \(\mathcal{G}_a\) and \(\mathcal{R}_a\) is constructed. It is shown that \(\mathcal{R}_a\) has eight neighbors and that four intersect \(\mathcal{R}_a\) in one point. Moreover, a connection between the boundaries of \(\mathcal{G}_a\) and \(\mathcal{R}_a\) is presented. Finally, it is proved that the boundary of \(\mathcal{R}_2\) is homeomorphic to a circle.
