Characterizations of automorphisms of operator algebras on Banach spaces (Q2348406)

The authors present results which say that if a multiplicative map \(\phi\) defined on the full operator algebra \(B(X)\) over a complex Banach space \(X\) of dimension greater than one is close enough to an algebra automorphism, then \(\phi\) is necessarily an algebra automorphism itself. The measure of the required closeness is connected to the 2-dimensional projection constant of the underlying space \(X\) while in the case where \(X\) is reflexive it is independent of that.
