The authors consider a class of planar piecewise smooth quadratic integrable non-Hamiltonian systems. The focus is on the estimation of the number of limit cycles which bifurcate in any compact region from the periodic annulus of the systems. They employ the first order averaging method to construct the averaged functions and compute the number of simple zeros. For a polynomial perturbation of degree \(n\), they find that the number of limit cycles obtained from a planar piecewise smooth differential systems is at least twice of that of the smooth counterpart.
