Let \(R\neq 0\) be a commutative ring with identity. In the paper under review the authors consider crossed product algebras of the form \((RL)^*\#_\sigma RK\), where \(K\) and \(L\) are finite groups such that \(L\) is endowed with a \(K\)-action and the 2-cocycle \(\sigma\) takes values in the unit group of the coefficient ring \(R\). They show that such crossed product is a twisted groupoid algebra, which is a special case of a twisted finite category algebra. The groupoid involved is the so-called action groupoid of the action of \(K\) on \(L\). As a consequence of this fact, they show that a crossed product algebra is always isomorphic to a direct product of matrix algebras over twisted group algebras of finite groups. Other results on crossed products, in certain contexts, are also obtained using results on twisted finite category algebras.
