On a functional equation on groups arising from the characterization of stochastic distance measures (Q2350255)

Let \(G\) be a group and \(\mathbb{C}\) denotes the field of complex numbers. The authors determine general solutions \(f,g,h,k: G\times G\to \mathbb{C}\) of the functional equation \[ f(pr,qs)+g(ps,qr)=h(p,q)+k(r,s) \] (this equation on intervals \((0, 1]\) and \((0, 1)\) was examined by \textit{T. Riedel} and \textit{P. K. Sahoo} [Aequationes Math. 54, No. 3, 242--263 (1997; Zbl 0895.39007)] and \textit{P. K. Sahoo} [Bull. Korean Math. Soc. 36, No. 2, 287--303 (1999; Zbl 0934.39008)], respectively). To this end, three auxiliary functional equations are solved.
