The goal of the paper is to study a notion of \textit{transfinite diameter} for algebraic curves in \({\mathbb C}^N\), with \(N>1\), which generalizes the \textit{Fekete-Leja transfinite diameter} of compact sets in \({\mathbb C}^N\). The paper extends to an arbitrary \(N\) the results obtained by one of the author for \(N=2\) in a previous paper. For this purpose, the notion of transfinite diameter for curves is related to various \textit{Chebyshev constants}. More precisely, it is shown that the transfinite diameter of a curve is given by a well-defined limiting process, related to the notion of directional Chebyshev constant. Some further properties of transfinite diameter are also shown.
