In the first part of the paper the authors discuss a general framework for various notions of transfinite diameters of compact subsets \(E\) of \(\mathbb C^N\), \(N>1\). Using a result of \textit{R. Rumely} [Math. Ann. 337, No. 4, 729--738 (2007; Zbl 1127.31003)], they prove a relationship between two types of weighted transfinite diameters \(\delta^w(E)\) and \(d^w(E)\) discussed in the paper, where \(w\) is an admissible weight function on \(E\), i.e., a nonnegative uppersemicontinuous function with \(\{z\in E: w(z)>0\}\) nonpluripolar. In the second part of the paper the authors generalize to \(\mathbb C^N\) some results on strong asymptotics of Christoffel functions proved previously by the authors in one variable in [J. Anal. Math. 106, 353--371 (2008; Zbl 1158.28001)].
