Let \(O\) be a simply connected domain in the complex plane and let \(p\in O\). Consider the operator defined on the set of all functions analytic on \(O\) by the formula \[ (J_{p}f)(z)=\int_{p}^{z}f(\zeta)\,d\zeta, \quad z\in O. \] The interior diameter of \(O\) is defined by the formula \[ \text{diam}_{I}O = \sup_{z_{0},z_{1}\in O}\inf_{\gamma\in\Gamma(z_{0},z_{1})} \int_{0}^{1}|\gamma'(t)|\,dt, \] where \(\gamma\in\Gamma(z_{0},z_{1})\) means that \(\gamma:[0,1]\to O\) is a smooth path with \(\gamma(0)=z_{0}\) and \(\gamma(1)=z_{1}\). The following theorem is proved: The operator \(J_{p}\) is bounded on \(H^{\infty}(O)\) if and only if \(\text{diam}_{I}(O)<\infty\). This result is based on a new result on uniform approximations of Bloch functions. For an analytic function \(g\) on the unit disk \(\mathbb D\) in the complex plane, consider the operator \(T_{g}\) acting on the space of analytic functions on \(\mathbb D\) by the formula \[ (T_{g}f)(z)=\int_{0}^{z}f(\zeta)g'(\zeta)\,d\zeta,\quad z\in\mathbb D. \] This operator is bounded on \(H^{\infty}(\mathbb D)\) if \(\sup_{\theta}\int_{0}^{1}|g'(re^{i\theta})|\,dr<\infty\). The paper contains a counterexample showing that this condition is not necessary for boundedness of \(T_{g}\) on \(H^{\infty}(\mathbb D)\).
