Nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) having Hamiltonian structure appear in many problems in mathematical physics so they are of a huge interest. Generally it is a very difficult problem to study behavior of solutions of these equations. It is worth noting that non-existence of global in time solutions (the so-called blow-up solutions) is a typical phenomenon for systems of PDEs coming from problems of mathematical physics. In the given paper the author tries to understand the nature of these difficulties for two special problems: the \(L^2\) (mass) critical nonlinear Schrödinger equation (cNLS) and the \(L^2\) (mass) critical generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation (cKdV). From the physical point of view it is important and interesting to study cNLS equation in dimension 2 and cKdV equation in dimension 1 so only these cases were considered. This paper gives an overview of results related to asymptotic behavior and blow-up of solutions of these two problems.
