The authors compare the convergence rates of a hybrid Picard-Krasnoselskii scheme with some iterative schemes for fixed points of a contractive mapping in a normed linear space. Under the assumption that the Picard, Krasnoselskii, Mann, Ishikawa and hybrid Picard-Krasnoselskii schemes converge to the same fixed point of a self contractive mapping of a closed convex subset of the space, the hybrid Picard-Krasnoselskii scheme is shown to converge faster than each of the other schemes mentioned above. Under certain assumptions, the result so obtained is used to determine the existence and uniqueness of a solution of some delay differential equation.
