Sabbah's specialization complex is a simultaneous generalization of Deligne's nearby cycle complex and of the Alexander modules of an algebraic knot. The authors show that the support \(S\) of this complex is a hypersurface, which admits a precise description in terms of log resolutions. As an application, they give a criterion for the semisimplicity of the direct image of a rank one local system under an open embedding. The details are worked out in the case of a hyperplane arrangement.
