In this paper, under weak hypotheses, the small time asymptotics on the diagonal (at a point \(x_{0}\)) associated with the fundamental solution of Hörmander's type hypoelliptic operator with drift is investigated in a geometric framework. More precisely, by using the Lie algebra generated by some smooth vector fields (defined on a closed \(n\)-dimensional submanifold of the Euclidean space) and the weak Hörmander's condition of hypoellipticity, it is proved that the asymptotics of the fundamental solution depends on the local controllability of some associated control problems. Quite recently, the reviewer, see \textit{S.~Treanta} [Int. J. Control 90, No. 9, 1893--1902 (2017; Zbl 1367.93081)], formulated and proved Lie-algebraic sufficient conditions which involve the local uncontrollability of a given affine control system with jumps. In this regard, it can be remarked that the study developed in the present paper can be extended to the impulsive case. Finally, in order to illustrate the effectiveness of the main result derived in this paper, there are studied some applications.
