[The articles of this volume will not be indexed individually.] The volume contains the proceedings of the International Workshop on Compiler Construction CC `92, hosted by Universitat GH Paderborn. The workshop continues the series of Compiler Compiler workshops organized every two years in Germany since 1986. The edidors have included in the volume all the papers, (28), presented at the workshop. There are a broad variety of subjects treated by the papers of the volume. Practically, all the most important topics of compiling are covered. The material of the book is not structured on parts or chapters. Therefore, we try to stress on the main themes of the workshop. They are: 1. Attribute grammars and tools based on attribute grammars. The following classes of attribute grammars are discussed around: Conditional \(L\)-attributed grammars, modular attributed grammars and grammars of syntactical functions (GSF). Also, there are two papers presenting an integrated graphic environment for applications development and a language development laboratory, both tools being based on attribute grammars. 2. \(LR\) parsing and translation. The volume contains a description about how to generate small \(LR(1)\) parsers and a formalism on syntax-directed translation based on \(LR\) parsing. 3. Code generation. Approximately six papers are devoted to this theme. They deal with different subjects like code selection, register allocation, and instruction scheduling. 4. Other themes. The reader will find out several papers on compiling functional languages and object oriented languages. An extended presentation of the ACTRESS compiler generator is also included. ACTRESS is developed in SML and is based on action semantics. Other subjects that are treated are: symbol tables and scoping problems, compiler correctness, data flow analysis, partial evaluation and pattern matching. The volume is intend to computer scientists, teachers and students. It contains a state of the art in the field. The reader is assumed to be familiarized with the basic terms of formal languages and compiler construction.
