The author continues his research [Houston J. Math. 12, No. 4, 587-599 (1986; Zbl 0713.54038)] on finite decompositions of continua. A concept of finite coverings of continua with linear order of their members is introduced and studied in the paper. A characterization is obtained of hereditarily locally connected continua which have a finite supremum of cardinalities of the considered coverings.
