Limit theorems in spline approximation (Q2368661)

In this article, approximations with polynomial splines are discussed. A particular question on which the analysis is focussed is the limit of those polynomial splines when the ``piecewise'' spline degree tends to infinity. For \(1\leq p\leq \infty\), it is shown that the approximation error of the best approximations with the splines tends to the error of best approximation by entire functions of exponential type. An example is given to illustrate the theory.
