The authors give an analytical and numerical investigation of the Fredholm integral equation for the heat radiation problem. They focus on mathematical and numerical aspects of the radiosity equation defined for convex and non convex enclosure geometries with diffuse and grey surfaces. They first derive the heat radiosity equation for convex and nonconvex geometries, and present some important properties of the integral operator. The Banach fixed point theorem is used to prove the existence and the uniqueness of the solution of the radiosity equation. In addition the authors discuss the numerical treatment of the integral equation and numerical results are given related to the iterative methods.
