A graded module \(N\) over a graded ring \(R\) is called tame if either \(N_j=0\) for \(j\ll 0\) or \(N_j\neq 0\) for \(j\ll 0\). There was interest in the question if all local cohomology modules \(H^i_{R_+}(M)\) are tame, where \(R\) is a finitely generated, positively graded algebra over a noetherian base ring \(R_0\) (and \(R_+:=\bigoplus _{i>0}R_i\)). This question is known to have a positive answer in certain special cases. On the other hand, \textit{S. D. Cutkosky} and \textit{J. Herzog} [J. Pure Appl. Algebra 211, No. 2, 428--432 (2007; Zbl 1119.13012)] found an example of a non-tame local cohomology module in the above sense. In this paper it is shown that all local cohomology modules are tame where \(M=R\) is a quotient of a polynomial ring over a field by a monomial ideal and \(I\) is a monomial prime ideal. One major ingredient of the proof is a generalization (which is also proved in the paper) of Hochster's formula for the Hilbert series of the local cohomology of a Stanley-Reisner ring belonging to a simplicial complex.
