Let \((R,m)\) be a Cohen-Macaulay ring and \(\{M_j\}_{j\in J}\) the complete list of isomorphism classes of indecomposable maximal Cohen-Macaulay \(R\)-modules. Let \(\Lambda\) be the set of annihilator ideals of modules of type \(\text{Ext}^i_R(M_j,M_k)\), for \(i\geq 1\). Suppose that \(J\) is countable. Let \(x\) be a system of parameters of \(R\) containing an element which is not in the union of the ideals of \(\Lambda\) others than \(m\). Then for any ideal \(I\subset R\) it holds \(m((x):((x):I))\subset (x,I)\). This is a condition of Gorenstein type, which is valid for local Cohen-Macaulay rings \((R,m,k)\) with \(k\) infinite and canonical module \(\omega\) such that \(m\subset \omega^*(\omega)=\{f(x):f\in \Hom(\omega,R), x\in \omega\}\), in particular for factors of Gorenstein local rings by their socles, which are described in some cases.
