Let \(X, Y\) be Banach spaces. An operator \(A^- \in B(Y, X)\) is called a g-inverse of \(A \in B(X,Y)\) if \(AA^- A=A\). Then we say that the operator \(A\) is relatively regular. The authors extend the definitions of space pre-order and minus partial order to the class of bounded linear operators on Banach spaces in the same way as for matrices; see [\textit{S. K. Mitra, P. Bhimasankaram} and \textit{S. B. Malik}, Matrix partial orders, shorted operators and applications. Hackensack, NJ: World Scientific (2010; Zbl 1203.15023)]: (i) Let \(A,B \in B(X,Y)\). Then \(A\) is said to be below \(B\) under space pre-order if \(R(A)\subseteq R(B)\) and \(N(B) \subseteq N(A)\), where \(R(\cdot)\) and \(N(\cdot)\) denote the range and null space, respectively. (ii) Let \(A,B \in B(X,Y)\) be relatively regular. Then \(A\) is said to be below \(B\) under minus partial order if there exists a g-inverse \(A^-\) of \(A\) such that \(AA^-= BA^-\) and \(A^- A = A^- B\). The aim of the paper is to give some basic properties and to provide several characterizations of the space pre-order and the minus partial order for operators on Banach spaces. All these properties also hold for real and complex matrices.
