The author uses a method of Buzzard (and Coleman, Hida,\dots) to study \(p\)-adic families of Hilbert modular forms and modular forms over imaginary quadratic fields. Let \(F\) be a totally real field of even degree \(d\). In this case, Hilbert cusp forms of weight \({\mathbf k}= (k_1,\dots, k_d)\) and some level correspond via Jacquet-Langlands to a set \(S^D_{{\mathbf k}}(U)\) of modular forms for a quaternion algebra \(D\) of level \(U\) and weight \({\mathbf k}\), where \(U\) is a certain compact open subgroup of the adelization of \(D\). The author proves that if \({\mathbf k}\) is sufficiently large relative to the slope \(\alpha\), then the number of Hecke eigenvalues of slope \(\alpha\) on \(S^D_{{\mathbf k}}(U)\) for the normalized Hecke operator \(T_p\) at an inert prime \(p\) is constant as \({\mathbf k}\) varies in \(p\)-adic small disk (Theorem 1.1).
