The authors present the theoretical framework for studying certain properties of two-dimensional rigid bodies and point vortices. More precisely, starting from an equivalent formulation in terms of a geodesic flow on the Cartesian product of the group of two-dimensional translations and rotations, and a space of embeddings related to the fluid properties; by means of symplectic reduction strategies, the governing equations for motion of a circular rigid body immersed in a perfect fluid with \(N\) point vortices are rigorously derived. Another useful concept is the Neumann connection, which in short relates an infinitesimal motion of the body with the produced response in the perfect fluid. The geometric approach used herein could be useful in different contexts, such as the fluid-structure interaction problem.
